You've landed at the Elbow Tree Group, which operates as the "hub" of four interconnected counseling related businesses in Chattanooga, TN. This website is a one-stop shop for you to connect with any of the services we offer. See the "Q and A" below for some the information you may need to get started!
I've landed here and I'm not even sure what or who I'm looking for??
It's ok - we get it. We know it can be overwhelming. Go ahead and just email Greg and he will get you oriented.
I'm pretty sure I'm just looking for counseling. How do I get started with that??
Alot of people are looking for traditional counseling. Counseling can involve anything from advanced mental health interventions and treatment of certain disorders - to just good old fashioned wisdom, problem solving, a listening ear and even friendly advice! We've got you covered. Elbow Tree Christian Counseling - or - Watershed Counseling & Consulting would be your two options. You can navigate that on your own - take a look at our staff - book an appointment online - or we can help. If you want to be placed with a counselor or you are not sure who you should see - email Greg.
What are Coaching and Spiritual Direction??
Coaching and Spiritual Direction (also in the family of coaching) differ from traditional counseling, because they aren't used for treating medical or mental health disorders. For example, coaching wouldn't be used to treat a "clinically diagnosable situation" like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Eating Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or suicidality. That being said, there are plenty of folks who struggle with the previously mentioned things, that may decide to do coaching for other reasons. Also, coaching wouldn't use clinical/technical interventions like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Coaching uses other ideas and tactics related to goal setting, strategy, human performance, vision casting, decision making, Christian discipleship, mentoring, team building, group initiatives, etc. Coaches may not come from a traditional counseling background and often bring other specialized skills and life experience to the table. What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is also known as "biofeedback" or "brain training." Whereas as all other parts of the Elbow Tree Group are talk-based, Neurofeedback is not. The process involves brain-mapping on the front end (aka: EEG reading - or - electroencephalogram), a series of video-based brain trainings and then a follow up brain map. This intervention uses operant conditioning to address unhealthy brainwave patterns. Sound complex? It's actually much simpler than it sounds and frequently yields incredible results in alleviating a wide range of symptoms! Many of our own staff have done Neurofeedback and can tell you about their experience.
Do you accept health insurance?
No - we don't participate in any insurance networks or EAP's and are considered "out of network." With any of our services, you simply pay when you come. We accept cash, check, HSA Cards and all major credit cards. If you are receiving counseling from one of our licensed clinicians - or if you are receiving Neurofeedback services - we can provide you with a receipt to submit for possible insurance reimbursement (based on your particular plan). Keep in mind - your insurance plan will require us to give you a medical diagnosis that will become part of your permanent health record. Sometimes our clients simply want to file with their insurance to re-coop money spent on services (which is certainly understandable) without counting the longer term impact. Keep in mind that mental health diagnoses on your record can sometimes cause problems when applying to military, police and fire units, as well as when applying for various forms of life/disability insurance.
